A good process of Long Range Planning is most basically a process of strategic
decision making. Brought to the fore by the Stanford Graduate
School of Business (GSB) during the 1930's, strategic decision making in
business basically involves the elements of a military strategy:
(1) aggressively identify the problem (or opportunity), (2) unrestrictively
develop options to address the problem, and (3) objectively select
the best possible option to overcome the problem (or capitalize on the
opportunity). The steps are then routinely and regularly repeated
(processed).
Most effectively, an organization can develop an outstanding strategic
plan by bringing in a small group representing it's various stakeholders
(board, senior and middle management and key committee members) to work
with a facilitator leader who is neutral. This is best
accomplished by an outside person who can lead the group in the process,
not so much in the planning.
Prusa Associates can help you in this process by providing an experienced,
neutral facilitator to lead your planning process. We will
support you by converting the process to a written plan draft and incorporating
your changes into a final, professional document. |
